Whitson is a parish to the eastward of Goldcliff, in the lower division of Caldicot hundred, six miles south-east from Newport, and about five from Mager, Llanwern being the nearest railway station. It is in the Monmouth division of the county, petty sessional division, union and county court district of Newport, rural deanery of Netherwent, archdeaconry and diocese of Monmouth. On the south it is bounded by the Bristol channel; and, like Goldcliff, is protected therefrom by a sea wall.

PLACES OF WORSHlP.-The church is an ancient stone building in the early English style, and some years since was restored and fitted with opea pews. The registers of baptisms date from the year 1744; marriages, 1729; and burials.L, 1728. Rev. D. Evans, vicar. Churchwardens, Charles Keyte and Garraway J. Smith.

POSTAL.-Letters, via Newport, are delivered by postman, and collected by him on his return in the evening.
Schools.-There is a non-provided Public School in the parish of Goldcliff for the two parishes (Miss Margaret Keyte, schoolmistress).
The land is nearly all pasture.
