The Church

Redwick church is dedicated to St. Thomas, althought an earlier dedication, when it belonged to Tintern Abbey, appears to have been St. Michael; it is held with Magor. It's enbattled and pinnacled central tower containing five bells, two of which are of date circa 1350-80. has apparently been completed in its upper stage in Perpendicular style. A tablet on the exterior wall of the south porch commemorates the height of the Great Flood of 1606 and a small scratch dial appears on the opposite buttress with a few other attempts.
The registers date from 1787.
An unpleasant memory of the penal laws of not so very long ago comes from this parish. The last man to be hanged for sheep stealing in Monmouth was charged before local magistrates assembled at the Great House in this village.
