The Village
Caerwent, or Caer Gwent - the fortress of Gwent, is a place of historic interest, for it is the site
of the Roman town of Venta Silurum, of which innumerable evidences, including the town wall, exist.
The church itself is largely built from stones from the Roman buildings, which stone is not local
but was brought from Somersetshire by the Romans across the Severn.
